A little background about myself
I was born in Quito, Ecuador. Our mother
language is Spanish. Back in the '60s, learning a second language wasn't
considered essential, so it was not mandatory in all schools.
During my first years in Elementary School, English was included among the several subjects. I took 3 hours of English per week, which weren't enough to give me the knowledge to attempt to read or speak in that language. During High School I took 4 hours of English per week. Again, after 6 years I still didn't have enough knowledge of the language.
Even though I was able to
understand basic passages in magazines and the meaning of a few songs, I
wouldn't dare speak in English to anybody.
